Architect David Sellers began designing this set in 1965 while still a graduate student at Yale. While studying with Sculptor Robert Engman, chairman of the Sculpture department at Yale, and influenced by Josef Albers and Louis Kahn, then visiting faculty, Sellers evolved a design that is intended to demonstrate and instruct the moves of each piece and it’s relative value by the shape of the piece. Try to guess what the principle is. Seller’s thinks that an alien from outer space could figure all the rules of chess my merely studying each shape. Made from Cherry and Maple. Each table leg is designed to represent in form the winning strategies of each master, Bobby Fisher, Boris Spassky, Garry Kasparov and IBM. Patented.
